The isolated masks

SIRACUSA MARTINA

MARE LORDUM

The sea, wounded and polluted, becomes the protagonist of this ecological warning. A poisoned merman rises from waters laden with plastic and waste, symbolizing nature suffering from human neglect. Around him swim deformed fish and trapped turtles, while a skeletal seagull looks on helplessly. Yet amid the suffering, a mermaid gently collects the debris, attempting to restore purity to her world. Mare Lordum a play on mare nostrum and “dirty” is both a cry of alarm and a message of hope: rebirth is possible if humanity respects what gives it life.
