The miniature floats
GIULIO FRANCESCHINO (Cat. B)
DIMMI CHI SEI E NON MI LASCERAI MAI!
The main theme of this work is love, a vital and immensely important feeling that each of us experiences toward another person. Love manifests as a desire to bring happiness and to pursue its fantasy.
At the front of the float, I wanted to represent dolphins, which in classical tradition symbolize elegance and refinement. These dolphins are accompanied by a landscape of flowers and artistic street lamps. From this landscape, two abstract figures emerge from a shell, intertwining with each other. These figures symbolize family ties, which, despite the many difficulties life presents, strive to move forward toward infinity.
Behind them, we find the figure of a dragon, which, from Chinese tradition, represents strength. Finally, at the back of the float, a gigantic sun rises, symbolizing the masculine element of nature, accompanied by two half-moons, which represent the feminine natural symbol. These elements will culminate in the completeness of the work.
The float will be created using the traditional papier-mâché technique, following ancient crafting methods. Movement systems will be installed in the float to bring the composition to life, and with the use of lighting effects, the colors will come to life. The float will also feature a state-of-the-art lifesaving device, LED bulbs, and strobe lights.
The movements will be the highlight of the float:
The dolphins will move up and down.
The couple of young lovers will rotate 360 degrees.
The dragon will have several movements, such as moving its head left and right, and its arms left and right.
On the sides, circular shapes will open like flags, displaying symbols of love.
Finally, the sun will rise with a piston and will rotate 360 degrees.
The two half-moons on the sides will move like flags.
The work adheres to all the rules set forth by the competition guidelines.
