The miniature floats
CLEMENTE IANNONE (Cat. B)
VA... DOVE TI PORTA IL CUORE
The main theme of this work addresses a phenomenon that is very familiar to us young people: mass exodus. Young people find themselves reluctantly forced to leave their homeland in pursuit of their dreams and to fulfill the ideas they've developed during a difficult and tiring academic journey.
The young man at the center of the float rides the waves of the Mediterranean Sea while sitting on a suitcase, which represents his cultural baggage. He is followed by books symbolizing his studies, and a teddy bear, representing childhood that he has left behind but which will live on in the memories that surface far from home.
It is notable that the Mediterranean Sea, in which the young man navigates, is shown in two conditions: stormy on the left, calm on the right. The storm on the left, with Mount Etna erupting, outlines the hostile environment the boy leaves behind; while the calm sea on the right outlines the new horizon full of hope.
Behind the young man, two well-known figures rise majestically: Scylla and Charybdis, known respectively as the devourer of sailors and the cause of the fierce waves. They represent the idea of devouring one's dreams and sinking one's efforts that find no realization in their homeland.
Finally, to crown it all, there is another Greek mythological god: Proteus, symbolizing adaptability and good omen for the future.
No matter where you are, how many sacrifices you must face, or how far you are from home; what matters is that "Yes... Go where your heart takes you."
